Under the direction of the Pool Manager and supervision of the Recreation Coordinator, accomplishes specialized work in protecting life, preventing accidents, enforcing safety regulations, and performs related work as required. This position is a temporary seasonal summer position.
While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may be routinely required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Work may routinely require the employee to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires the individual to frequently work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions, including higher temperatures, humidity, moisture and distracting noises.
An individual who poses a direct threat to the health and safety of himself/herself or others in the workplace will be deemed not qualified for this position.

- Responsible for the safety of guests at aquatic facilities and enforcing rules and regulations at aquatic facilities.
- Responds to minor and major emergencies providing an accountable and professional standard of care.
- Display professionalism with pool patrons and staff.
- Assists customers with questions about the facility and its programming, provides information on facility hours, features, and rules over the phone and in person.
- Attending all required meetings, training, and in-services as directed by the Pool Manager and/or the Recreations Coordinator(s).
- Stay current on skills and required certifications and follow all pool rules and regulations provided in the personnel policy or training.
- Cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment throughout the day to ensure optimal cleanliness, especially during peak hours of operation.
- Assist in promoting departmental programs and city-wide special event coordination and set up.
- Maintains desired working relationship with Assistant Director, Recreation Manager, and Recreation Coordinator-Aquatics.
- Performs all other duties as duly assigned.
- Age 16 or older.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Driver's License.
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguard certifications required or obtained before working.
- Proof of an equivalent and current up to date lifeguard certification may substitute.
- The City of Kyle will certify and pay for certification if not already obtained.
- Previous lifeguard experience preferred, BUT NOT REQUIRED
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services.
- Ability to swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues.
- Working knowledge of basic opening, closing, and cash on hand statements.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.
- Possess good decision-making skills and the ability to respond quickly and remain calm in stressful situations.
