What are the responsibilities and job description for the LTE Laborer Streets/Recycling position at City of La Crosse?
The City of La Crosse is seeking to hire temporary summer laborers at the Street Department. It is the responsibility of the Street Department to provide maintenance and repair of streets, snow removal, and oversee the refuse and recycling program. These temporary positions will work 10-40 hours per week depending on availability. Standard operating hours of Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with some weekend and night work. Starting wage is $18.00 per hour. Positions to start 5/1/2025 and end 10/30/2025. Positions are limited term and do not acquire benefits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform general labor, maintenance & repair such as line painting & lawn care
- Perform routine buildings & grounds maintenance such as light janitorial work
- Assist at the yard waste site
- Assist with construction projects
- Vehicle operation
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required
Physical and Mental Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Ability to walk/stand majority of the day
- Ability to communicate effectively with department personnel and general public
- Ability to exert physically demanding work, typically involving a combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling
- Motivated, responsible, and have excellent time management skills
- Ability to work in a variety of temperatures and weather
