DEFINITION
To assist in organizing and implementing a variety of recreational and educational activities and programs for senior adults; and to coordinate Special Services transportation program and services.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
For indefinite periods of time - mobility within an office and field environment; exposure to mechanical, electrical, and fume/odor hazards; exposure to constant noise; writing; walking; twisting body; standing; squatting; sorting; sitting; seeing; pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying up to 20 pounds; kneeling; grasping; filing; dragging; climbing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; using both hands for simple and firm grasping; clarity of hearing; communicating clearly and effectively, in person, and by telephone; fine finger manipulation; operation of a personal computer, typewriter, fax, copier, tv, vcr, video recorder, stereo, calculator and small hand tools; operating a bus, van, and motor vehicle through city traffic.
Qualifications
Knowledge of:
One year of experience in directing recreation activities for senior adults and a High School Diploma or GED.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six weeks, a valid Texas Drivers License and possession of, or ability to obtain with one month, CPR, First Aid and ACD Certifications.

DEFINITION

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
- Receives direction from the Program Coordinator.
- Exercise indirect supervision over part time staff.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist Special Services Coordinator in promoting and implementing a variety of recreational and educational activities and programs for senior adults including transportation, crafts, fitness, and nutrition programs.
- Assist Special Services Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and coordinating division vehicle usage for daily programs, special events and activities; perform regular safety inspection on vehicles and coordinate vehicle maintenance with other City departments.
- Assist Special Services Coordinator in preparing and serving meals to program participants; set up serving and eating area; clean kitchen and cooking utensils.
- Respond to inquiries or requests for information from interested community groups and senior adults.
- Maintain recreation facilities and equipment in a neat and orderly manner; take inventory of equipment, supplies and materials; and maintaininventory records.
- Participate in center meetings; assist in evaluating program techniques and content.
- Prepare and submit weekly and monthly contribution reports to the Special Services Coordinator.
- Preparing materials for recreational and educational classes such as arts and crafts, nutrition, and special activities for the senior adults.
- May be required to perform general clerical duties such as light typing and filing and record keeping.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Basic mathematics.
- Assist in coordinating, organizing, and implementing recreation and leisure time activities and specialized events.
- Work with senior adults in directing recreation activities and services.
- Maintain detailed records and prepare routine reports.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
One year of experience in directing recreation activities for senior adults and a High School Diploma or GED.
