Mon – Fri 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Overtime hours as needed.
SALARY:
$2,431.60 - $2799.74 bi-weekly
DESCRIPTION:
Coordinate labor and materials to ensure that work is done in a cost effective and efficient manner. Plans,
schedules and assigns work tasks. Operates backhoe and dump trucks. Read blueprints, complete, process
and maintain reports and paperwork as required. Communicate with contractors, utilities and water office,
county offices, engineering office, businesses and homeowners. Operate valve turning machine. Ensure safe
working habits and practices are followed. Be responsible for field crew activities. Operate jack hammers and
portable air compressor. Repair street, road and yard surfaces. Install new water services, maintain existing
services and repair/replace equipment. Assist in any Water Works area as needed. Leads and directs
Construction Maintenance employees and Backhoe Operators. Incumbent installs new water services, repairs
water services and water mains with related emergencies and maintenance. Incumbent performs light to
heavy work while sitting, kneeling, or standing. Incumbent is required to climb, lift, carry and use pushing and
pulling actions. Incumbent must be able to operate a variety of hand and power tools, small and large. Work is
performed mainly outside under noisy and hot/cold conditions, alone and with others. Incumbent is exposed to
water, noise, dirt, and vibrations. Incumbent should be familiar with operation of backhoe, dump trucks, bob
cat and excavator, jack hammers, packers and air compressors. Ground maintenance as necessary and
assisting with snow removal at the Plant and throughout the City.
Incumbent must be aware of traffic control and heavy equipment operation procedures and the dangers
associated with digging around power and gas lines. Incumbent is required to wear protective gear such as:
safety vest, hard hats, goggles, ear plugs, gloves and masks, as appropriate. Incumbent reports to the Chief of
Distribution and Customer Service, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent.
REQUIREMENTS:
Incumbent must be at least 18 years of age, has a high school diploma or GED equivalent and must maintain a
valid Indiana Driver’s License. Incumbent must obtain a Class B CDL within 9 months of hire and maintain a
safe driving record. Tanker endorsement encouraged. Working knowledge of the City’s water system, general
plumbing and construction standards for water main installation and appurtenant features. Must be highly
organized, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Thorough knowledge of Department
and City practices, policies and procedures. Must be able to meet attendance requirements and have the
ability to occasionally work extended hours and assist in any Water Works area as required. Attain a DSL
certification from IDEM Drinking Water Branch. The ability to use personal computers, portable computers,
and smartphones or similar devices and knowledge of Microsoft Office is a plus.
