POSITION:
Chief of Distribution and Customer Service
LOCATION:
Water Works Plant
1020 Canal Road
Lafayette, IN 47904
HOURS:
Monday – Friday 8am – 4pm
SALARY RANGE:
$2976.92 - $3429.77 bi-weekly
DUTIES:
Supervise and organize meter change out program. Overseeing the testing of suspected
defective meters and repairing those that are able to be repaired. Supervises the work of
Customer Service and Construction Staff. Enters underground vaults and confined
spaces. Establishes daily work distribution with the Construction Foreperson and
Construction staff. Supervises the Construction Foreperson, Laborers, Backhoe
Operators and Locater positions. Conducts meetings with contractors concerning work
in progress and with salesmen offering product options. In charge of making proper
repairs to the distribution systems, along with disinfection procedures. Makes inspection
on construction projects in progress. Communicates effectively with the Engineering
office on distribution affairs. Review maps and blueprints for work in progress of water
main extensions. Remains current through continuing education programs for water
treatment industry. Responsible for required safety training for Construction personnel.
Backup Supervisor for Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent (if they are both out of
the office) and Chief of Operation and Maintenance. Generates other necessary
paperwork as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and must maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s
License. Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an CDL Class B Driver’s License
within 9 months of hire. Obtain and maintain a Cross Connection Control Device Inspector
Certificate. Thorough understanding of EPA, IDEM and other agency guidelines that
effect distribution system operations. Ability to safely operate departmental motorized
vehicles, including small dump trucks, skid steer and backhoe. Ability to safely attach and
pull trailer with equipment with pick-up truck. Ability to operate trash pumps, generators
or other gas-powered equipment. Basic construction knowledge is a plus. Ability to deal
with heights and confined spaces and be responsible for following all safety rules,
regulations and City policies. Must be able to work evenings and holidays.
