POSITION:
Seasonal Zoo Maintenance Technician
LOCATION:
Lafayette Parks and Recreation; Columbian Park Zoo
HOURS:
20 hours per week, variable schedule
SALARY:
$13.00/hr
Description
Incumbent serves as Zoo Maintenance Technician for the Columbian Park Zoo. Assists in maintaining
buildings and other structures, such as exhibits and patron areas, including painting/patching walls, and
making minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs, such as unclogging toilets, changing light bulbs,
repairing signs, and installing perches in animal exhibits.
Operates various hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, saws, etc. Incumbent may also operate equipment
such as power tools, dump truck, leaf blower, power washer and trimmer in effecting the general
maintenance and safety of Columbian Park Zoo. Keeps equipment, tools and vehicles clean and reports
repairs.
REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or GED required. Education or experience, or both, in maintenance, preferred. CPR,
First Aid preferred.
Must possess valid driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
Strong communication skills, responsible, self-motivated and dependable. Knowledge of customer
service, communication and public relation skills. Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy
and respect, including occasional encounters with irate/hostile persons.
Ability to follow and ensure compliance with all employer/department personnel policies and work rules,
including but not limited to: attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to operate all equipment in the Department, including but not limited to, landscaping equipment,
and various excavation tools ranging from hand tools to motorized equipment.
A positive professional appearance, demeanor and attitude, and work harmoniously with all contacts in
an enthusiastic and cooperative manner.
