The City of Lansing is seeking a goal-driven Public Engagement Coordinator, dedicated to serving the public and helping to maintain effective lines of communication through public outreach, educational programs, and developing creative content for social media platforms and department webpage. The successful candidate must have the ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and have a strong skill set in analytical, organizational, and customer service, along with project/task/event management skills. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license OR be able to transport self to off-site locations as necessary.
- Requires some evening and weekend work for public engagement events.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING:
- Associate’s Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field (Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, preferred); AND
- One (1) year of experience in community engagement, communications, and/or public relations.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Experience in local government communications, preferred.
- Experience with technical writing, preferred.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Plans, develops, implements, and advises department on a comprehensive and innovative public relations, communications, and promotion programs aimed at increasing awareness, current and future construction, and other department activities.
- Develops internal outreach and communication plans and strategies; prepares content for department communications; develops department-related web content; manages and coordinates engagement with the Mayor’s Communication Office.
- Creates content for department’s social media platforms and website.
- Conducts a wide range of planning activities including developing long and short-range goals and objectives, and writing a wide range of monthly, seasonal, and annual reports and procedures; coordinates outreach/public participation programs and some events; administers programs independently; performs multiple project tasks; responsible for researching best practices and evaluating policies and procedures; plans, organizes, and directs research.
- Coordinates traffic advisories, press releases, and various other media releases with the City’s Communications Office.
