Under general supervision, the HR Generalist performs administrative and technical functions relating to records management, HRIS, benefits, hiring and general office operations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides support functions associated with recruitment, records management, HRIS, benefits, and general office operations and special projects as assigned.
- Ensures accurate, timely, and efficient processing and maintenance of HR documents, including but not limited to filing and entering staff changes into HRIS with minimal errors.
- Prepares and distributes job announcements and advertisements. Schedules interviews and tests. Act as an internal consultant to City departments/offices on human resource issues including recruitment, staffing, disciplinary and coaching issues.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and efficient processing and maintenance of HR documents and files.
- Plan, coordinate and administer benefit programs and provide compensation guidance.
- Represent the Human Resources Department to other City departments and a variety of outside agencies and the general public in acquiring and providing information and coordinating services and activities; explain and interpret Department programs, policies, and activities.
- Serve as an information source for a variety of employee questions.
- Ensure that the City Departments are in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, and internal audit requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying):
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible human resource experience.
- Prior municipal experience is preferred.
- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver license.
- Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Certified Professional (CP) certification is preferred.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to human resources or a related field.
