The City of Laramie is looking for a Recreation Program Leader to perform a variety of supervisory duties at the Laramie Community Recreation Center. This position works independently under the supervision of full-time Recreation Program Staff to assist with the supervision of programs and projects, events, assisting patrons, answering public inquiries, instructing program participants, staff scheduling and overall program management.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serve as facility Manager on Duty.
- Provide excellent customer service to patrons and program participants.
- Work in a supervisory capacity with Full-Time Recreation Staff to provide quality programs and activities, manage set up, tear down and clean up for programs assigned and to organize and monitor the work effort of other part-time staff.
- Works with Recreation Program staff to support general recreational programming as assigned.
- Supervise, train and support part-time staff to monitor the activities of patrons and program participants to ensure safe and respectful behavior in the facility, enforcing policies and rules as appropriate.
Minimum qualifications:
- Must have demonstrated ability to lead others, give direction, support and guidance to other staff.
- Must have excellent customer service skills.
- Must be available to work early afternoons, evenings, and on weekends.
- Must be able to work effectively in a team atmosphere; ability to work well under general supervision; communicate well verbally; work well in a dynamic and often busy environment.
- Must possess computer knowledge and skills.
- First aid and CPR/AED certification are required (training will be provided to successful candidate.)
Preferred Qualifications: (A combination of the following experience and training, or the equivalent of, would be qualifying):
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience as well as self-motivated work ethic.
- Working knowledge of recreational activities, including hazards and safety precautions common to recreational activities.
- Understanding and experience in working with the general public, including parents and children, seniors, interest groups and other staff under supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, and the general public; ability to create and maintain enthusiasm in the workplace.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, swim, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, balance, lift 50 lbs., occasionally push or pull 100 lbs., and far and near acuity. Work environment includes exposure to noise, outdoors, confining workspace, chemicals, dust, mechanical and electrical hazards, exposure to blood-borne pathogens, body fluids and tissue, and diseases. Ability to travel to different sites, and ability for evening and weekend work.
