Outdoor Program Trip Leader
JOB PURPOSE:
About the Outdoor Program: As part of the Campus Recreation Department, the Outdoor Program helps recruit and retain students, faculty and staff by providing a wide range of inclusive, safe, reasonably priced, and accessible outdoor programs and services to the UW community. We expose and guide individuals in the natural environment, provide skill and leadership development opportunities, and facilitate peer to peer interactions and fun.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide high-quality programming for the Outdoor Program
o Facilitate safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation activities similar but not limited to hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, water sports, rock climbing, fly fishing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, backcountry skiing, and various indoor clinics
o Learn, maintain, and improve upon outdoor skills, technical skills, risk management, group management, and decision making
o Provide personalized instruction to create positive outdoor experiences for participants
o Ability to develop and follow curriculum and lesson plans
o Obtain and maintain necessary certifications including Wilderness Medicine (WFA minimum), CPR/AED, and annual University Motor Vehicle Record check o Evaluate and assess your performance with Program Coordinators

- Personal experience in one or more of our trip categories, such as hiking, climbing, paddling, skiing, etc.
- Wilderness First Aid (the Outdoor Program offers WFA for a fee)
- Interest in teaching various outdoor recreation activities, ensuring physical and emotional safety, creating an inclusive environment for all participants, and a willingness to learn.
- Previous experience facilitating, guiding, or teaching activities in an outdoor related setting.
