The Solid Waste Division is currently seeking a Solid Waste Landfill Supervisor. As the Landfill Supervisor, you will be working with the Solid Waste Manager to ensure that solid waste disposal and diversion needs are met for the City of Laramie and the surrounding area. The landfill includes a recycling center, a composting area and MSW and C&D disposal areas.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives, identify and resolve problems, implement policies and procedures and confirm solid waste regulatory requirements are met.
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, schedule and review the work of staff responsible for providing disposal services in accordance with the landfill permit and city policies.
- Participate in the selection of assigned staff, provide and coordinate staff training in the areas of work methods, techniques and safety in the use and operation of vehicles, tools and equipment.
- Inspect and verify work in progress and completed work assigned for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform any landfill duties as needed due to operational issues.
- Operate landfill equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner.
- Prepare and keep records current and accurate, gather information for reports and supervise the time keeping and performance of staff.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the assigned budget; submit budget recommendations; prepare and submit requisitions for supplies, materials and parts; monitor expenditures.
- Coordinate assigned services and requests with staff in other departments, outside agencies and the general public; respond to and resolve inquires and complaints.
- Participate in the development of vehicle, equipment and service bid specifications.
- Provide assistance and support to the collections side of the division as needed.
- Serve as Solid Waste Manager upon request or absence of the Solid Waste Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS (A combination of the following experience and training would be qualifying):
- Minimum of four years of progressively responsible collection or disposal service, including some supervisory experience.
- Education equivalent to a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by specialized training or college course work in a related field.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid driver’s license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality Sanitary Landfill Operator and Manager Certifications, and SWANA Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS include the ability to sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, climb and lift 75 lbs.; exposure to cold, heat, outdoors, confining workspace, chemical, mechanical and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations; on-call or stand-by 24 hours a day.
