The City of Laramie is accepting applications for a full-time Recreation Program Coordinator. This is a benefited position, approximately 40 hours a week, and will require occasional work during evenings and weekends as programming and activities demand. Under supervision, this position is responsible for Adventure Kids after-school and Summer Camp programs and also for other youth recreation activities. Programs operate at both the Recreation and Ice & Event Center and require coordination with staff at both locations for facility use and program activities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit, select, hire, train and manage provisional recreation staff; provide and/or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff responsible for classroom activities.
- Provide comprehensive management of the Adventure Kids and other assigned youth recreation programs, including procurement of supplies, assigning staff, managing registration and facilities for assigned programs in a cost-effective manner. Monitor overall cost effectiveness of the programs, assess facilities, fee structures and equipment needs; evaluate services of current programs and implement changes to existing programs.
- Develop and manage standard operating procedures to ensure appropriate facility and equipment maintenance and management.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; research, develop, recommend, and implement new programs; establish schedules and methods for providing recreation services; implement policies and procedures.
- Participate in the preparation and administration of the Recreation budget; submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
- Perform promotional work, encouraging participation, attendance, and interest in recreational activities; design and create advertising and promotional materials; talk with civic, private and other organizations regarding the activities of the Recreation Division.
- Respond to and resolve inquiries and complaints. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Any combination equivalent to experience and training would be qualifying):
- Three years of responsible recreation program experience including some supervisory experience.
- One-year experience with youth activities, including knowledge of educational techniques and program operation.
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in education, recreation, physical education, athletic programming, or a related field.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within first 30 days of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver license.
