Therefore, it is solely dependent of availability of grant funds.*The Public Health Technician will support a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research project titled, "Interactions of SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Genetic Variation on the Risk of Cognitive Decline and Alzheimer's Disease in Ancestral and Admixed Populations." This role will be assisting in data collection, participant recruitment, and retention efforts. This role plays a vital part in ensuring accurate data management and maintaining compliance with research protocols. The Public Health Technician will work under the supervision of the Health Program Coordinator and collaborate with community partners, research teams, and study participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Assist in the coordination and execution of project research activities.Support participant recruitment, screening, and enrollment efforts.Collect and document participant data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.Maintain and update participant databases following compliance and confidentiality standards.Ensure adherence to research protocols and institutional policies.Communicate with participants regarding study details, follow-ups, and retention efforts.Support the Health Program Coordinator in tracking program progress and preparing reports.Maintain accurate records and submit required reports in a timely manner.Assist in administrative duties, including scheduling, documentation, and inventory tracking.Perform other related duties as assigned.COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIESKnowledge of: Knowledge of basic public health principles and research methodologies.Knowledge of data collection techniques and best practices in confidentiality (e.g., HIPAA).Knowledge of data management systems, including best practices for ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.Knowledge of basic computer skills, including data entry and database management.Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and time-management skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).Strong cultural competency skills to work effectively with diverse populations.Ability to multitask, prioritize workloads, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Ability to engage with diverse populations in a culturally competent manner.Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to research ethics.Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a team.Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.Ability to generate clear and concise reports.Ability to maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.Ability to project a positive and professional image of the City of Laredo.Ability to comply with all City of Laredo policies and procedures.Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing.Ability to maintain good health and physical condition sufficient to permit the full performance of the duties of the position.Ability to perform essential functions.Ability to perform other duties as assigned.WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSPhysical Effort Requirements Position will have the following exposuresOccasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Required Licenses or CertificationsValid Texas Driver License.
