What are the responsibilities and job description for the Firefighter Paramedic position at City of Lawrenceburg?
WORK SCHEDULE: 24-hour shifts including nights and weekends. Overtime and call-out.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Respond to events involving hazardous incidents, emergency medical and other calls. Take appropriate action in the protection of life and property. Provide appropriate patient care at the scene of an emergency situation including, but not limited to, BLS and advanced life support. Lift patients of an average of 150 lbs. complete written reports and computer data entry. Assist in cleaning and restocking patient care area of the unit after each call. Follow the Lawrenceburg Fire Department Standard Operating Guidelines and General Orders, as well as Medical Protocols under the direction of the Fire Chief, or designee, and the Medical Director. Participate in fire prevention, public training activities, and station/equipment maintenance assignments. Work closely with the community to increase their level of fire safety awareness in order to help prevent fires and accidents from occurring. Operate the ambulance and fire trucks in a safe and rational manner. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural, linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation. Perform all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent required. Must hold an Indiana state and National Registry Paramedic, Firefighter I & II, and Hazardous Materials Operations. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a Firefighter required, experience as an attending Paramedic preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid Driver’s License and at least 18 years old. Must be able to pass the required statewide baseline physical examination, and the baseline statewide mental examination (Indiana Code 36-8-8-19), less than 40 years of age, or a be a veteran with 20 years of armed forces service with a maximum age of 40 years and 6 months (Indiana Code 36-8-8-7) and meet all of the requirements for membership for the 1977 Fund listed in Indiana Code 36-8-8-7. Must also be able to successfully complete a Lawrenceburg Fire Department physical agility evaluation. Must possess a current Healthcare BLS card; current ACLS; current IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800 certifications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The employees is required to pass the required statewide baseline physical examination as well as successfully complete a Lawrenceburg Fire Department physical agility evaluation. Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle and feel tools, objects and walk, climb, crouch, kneel, bend, push and pull. Must be able to repeatedly bend, lift and kneel throughout a 24-hour work shift. Must have good vision and hearing. The employee must be able to lift patients of an average of 150 lbs. and must be able to push or pull up to 50 lbs. All employees are required to complete the Yearly Physical Agility evaluation.
