The Assistant Director shall maintain a leadership role among peer staff and campers in an active summer day camp environment. Be responsible for the demands and requirements of a group of children ranging from 6 to 15 years old, such as medical, physical, social and emotional needs. Supervise and participate with the campers at all activity sites. Set an example for behavior and attitude for peer staff and campers. Ensure a safe supportive environment for all staff and participants. Serve as a liaison between group and camp administrative staff. Provide regular feedback to camp administrators to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of camp operations. This is a safety sensitive position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. - Assist in the supervision, training, motivation and evaluation of camp staff.
- Assists in counselor-in-training program for kids ages 13-15 years' old
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers.
- Ensure that all staff is following the handbook.
- Assist in the development of the daily schedule and as ensure that all aspects are followed appropriately and in a positive way (electives, special programs, daily events). Assist in the supervision and organization of all camp field trips.
- Consult with staff regularly to ensure programs are valuable, attitudes are positive, and to maintain good relations with them.
- Assist in guiding staff through self-evaluation process and camp programs.
- Work cooperatively with fellow Camp Director, Assistant Director, Camp Counselors, maintenance staff, and parents.
- Maintains discipline with children during all activities under the guidelines of the handbook.
- Follows all City of League City policies and procedures.
- Keeps the Camp Director appraised of situations requiring his/her attention.
- Attends trainings, seminars and meetings as required.
- Performs other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
- Must be at least 18 years or older
- Experience with kids 6-15 years old preferred
- Minimum 3 months of supervision experience
- Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.
- Previous camp experience preferred
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred
- 21 years or older
- Commit to all sessions of camp
- Experience in youth camp program administration
- The principles, practices and objectives of Parks and Recreation Administration and recreation programming
- Patient, comfortable and familiar with children
- Monitoring and maintaining the safety and security of children
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively in oral and written forms
- Work with children
- Prioritize duties and complete tasks within allotted planning hours
- Troubleshoot, problem solve and use good judgement
- Deal with the public tactfully and courteously
- Commitment to promoting the positive image and growth of the Camp program
