GENERAL SUMMARY
Lifeguards create a safe and welcoming environment and experience for pool guests. Lifeguards maintain vigilance of swimmers, execute emergency action plans, provide rule enforcement, and maintain current certifications and continuous training and auditing to ensure the safety of every guest. Must demonstrate clear communication and positive guest and team member interactions promoting an inviting culture. Duties include maintaining cleanliness of aquatics areas and other related tasks as assigned. This is a safety sensitive position requiring the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background investigation and will be subject to random drug testing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Maintain active American Red Cross lifeguard certification and attend lifeguard in-service and departmental trainings.
- Successfully complete random audits of attentiveness and trained skills to ensure rescue-ready levels are maintained at all times.
- Maintain a high safety acumen, reporting unsafe conditions immediately and effectively demonstrating safety practices.
- Prioritize and provide a welcoming and inviting experience to pool guests.
- Administer first aid and basic life support when necessary, adhering to the most current American Red Cross protocols.
- Execute emergency action plans in accordance with established safe practices.
- Enforce all aquatics rules and regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of all aquatics areas including but not limited to pools, pool decks, restrooms, and storage and equipment areas.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 15 (fifteen) years old.
- Must have current American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certificate or be able to complete certification course upon hire.
- Must be able to complete the prerequisites of untimed continuous 300-meter swim using freestyle or breaststroke refraining from pauses, timed 2-minute surface tread free of usage of hands or arms, and timed retrieval of submerged diving brick in deep water and swimming backwards with both hands grasping the diving brick.
- Ability to maintain levels of preparedness and performance levels.
- Must have high regard to safety, demonstrating and promoting safe practices internally and through pool guests.
- Must demonstrate positive and outgoing communication between team members and guests.
Any combination of education, training, and experience, which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities needed for this position, may be substituted or evaluated at the discretion of the City.
