Those forms will need to be completed, signed and notarized (where applicable), and then uploaded/attached with the application. You cannot proceed in the process without completing and submitting your personal history statement. A preliminary basic background check will be conducted and you will be notified if selected to continue to the written/physical test.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining academic viability within the academy program as required.
- Reports to assigned personnel within the department regularly to advise of academy status, events, equipment needs, or other requirements to maintain viability as a cadet.
- Must follow Leander Police Department and City of Leander personnel standards and policies.
- All academy cadets will attend all classes, training activities, demonstrations, or other activities listed in the Academy Schedule, unless excused by the Academy Director/Executive Staff.
- Cadets will maintain professional bearing and posture when attending the academy, as they represent the Leander Police Department.
- Cadets will be subject to all conduct rules and regulations as required by the academy, the City of Leander, and the Leander Police Department.
- Meets or exceeds minimum physical fitness curriculum as established by the academy.
- Report all injuries that would in any way impair their ability to remain viable academy cadets.
- During any normal work week where the academy will not be in session, the cadet will be assigned to duties as needed by their coordinator.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school graduate or its equivalent.
Required Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid driver license.
- Must be able to meet all eligibility requirements for licensure per the Texas Administrative Code – 37, 217.1.
- Full agility exam, TCOLE required medical exam, TCOLE required psychological exam, normal speech, normal or corrected vision, and normal or corrected hearing. Must pass all department exam requirements.
- Ability to meet all knowledge, skills and abilities required for a uniformed officer after completion of academy and passing TCOLE exam.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and be able to lift, push, or pull up to and in excess of 100 pounds with or without assistance, if required. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
