What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Cadet position at City of Round Rock?
Attend the Round Rock Police Department Training Academy and successfully complete the academy curriculum for Texas Basic Peace Officer; successfully complete the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement licensing examination and obtain certification as Basic Peace Officer.
Must meet all legal requirements for future licensing and certification as required by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
Must pass all phases of the selection process including a comprehensive background and the physical performance test.
Applicant offered employment must pass a drug screening test and psychological and medical assessments.
- Position requires comprehensive study of State laws, police procedures, and all aspects of the law enforcement function, in preparation for becoming a certified peace officer.
- Position requires continued daily attendance at the law enforcement training academy, successful completion of written tests, participation in physical fitness related activities as required by training academy, and completing academic requirements to obtain the Basic Peace Officer certificate.
- Position also includes assisting department personnel in performing a variety of law enforcement and crime prevention tasks.
High School Diploma or equivalent AND one of the following:
Minimum of 30 college credit hours from an accredited university, or
Two (2) years full-time employment as a non-sworn member of the Round Rock Police Department, or
Two (2) years of full-time basic jailer experience, or
Two (2) years of active-duty military service in the US Armed Forces
By the date of the entrance examination, you must be at least 20 years and 6 months of age.
Must be a United States citizen.
Must be able to complete the Basic Peace Officer curriculum at a regional law enforcement training academy and pass the TCOLE licensing examination to become a certified peace officer.
Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Texas driver’s license and a driving record with meets current City auto liability insurance requirements.
Step 1: Qualified applicants will submit an employment application via NEOGOV.
Step 2: After submitting an employment application, applicants will submit a Personal History Statement from the attached link City of Round Rock Personal History Statement and email it to Training1@roundrocktexas.gov no later than Friday, January 31, 2025. Please make sure to download the document using Adobe Reader to enable all interactive form fields.
Step 3: Upon initial review of the employment application and Personal History Statement, qualifying applicants will be invited to take the written exam. The written exam is scheduled for Monday, February 10, 2025 at the Round Rock Sports Center located at 2400 Chisholm Trail, Round Rock, TX 78681.
Step 4: Applicants who successfully pass the written exam will be invited to a Preliminary Board Interview. Passing applicants will be required to submit all required background documents as listed on the Personal History Statement immediately after their interview.
