Description
Lebanon, NH (15,500 pop., but with a daytime population of 30,000 – 35,000 people) is seeking an innovative, proactive, and engaging community leader to serve as its next City Manager. Encompassing about 41 square miles along the Connecticut River at the crossroads of two major interstates, I-89 and I-91, in the Upper Connecticut River Valley of New Hampshire, the City of Lebanon is the hub of the region and was named the Best Small Town in America by Livability in 2015.
With a diverse economic engine driven by a unique combination of health institutions, education, corporate headquarters, high tech/bio/med tech industry, local businesses, and a robust year-round tourist industry based on the plentiful natural resources of the area, Lebanon is an extremely desirable destination for the right City Manager candidate. Boston is a two-hour drive or 45-minute flight out of the Lebanon City Airport. Concord, the State capital, and Manchester, the State’s largest City, are both about a 1-hour drive. Lebanon boasts views of the White Mountain Range yet is less than a 2-hour drive to the seacoast.
Operating under a City Charter with a Council/Manager form of government, the City Manager is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Administrative Officer of the City for carrying out the policies established by the City Council. With approximately 200 full-time employees, most represented by unions, and 140 part-time employees, the City Manager oversees an operating, capital, and enterprise fund budget of approximately $93 million. Of that, $45 million relates to the General Fund. There are 12 direct reports to the City Manager including the Deputy City Managers (2), Police Chief, Fire Chief, Finance Director, HR Director, Airport Director, DPW Director, City Clerk, Cyber Services Director, Recreation, Arts and Parks Director and Chief Innovation and AI Officer.
Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree and 7 years of relevant progressively responsible management experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Residency is required by City Charter. Salary range to $180,000; starting salary commensurate with qualifications. An excellent benefits package is also available. Lebanon is an equal opportunity employer.
