Job Description
DEFINITION
The Emergency Dispatcher series is utilized in the Police Department, which provides full emergency and non-emergency communications and dispatch services to law enforcement, fire protection, medical services and other public safety agencies. Reporting to the Dispatch Supervisor, incumbents in the Senior Emergency Dispatcher classification provide lead supervision to subordinate dispatchers on an assigned shift in addition to regular dispatching responsibilities. Incumbents may be assigned training responsibilities for division personnel.

Exercises direct supervision over subordinate dispatch staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following :
Essential Functions :
- Provides lead supervision for subordinate dispatchers on an assigned shift
- Trains new staff and may conduct ongoing training of division personnel.
- Prepares and maintains counseling documentation and training records.
- Receives and dispatches routine and emergency telephone and radio communications from law enforcement, fire protection, medical services and other public safety agencies
- According to department procedures and practice, determines the proper jurisdiction, equipment and personnel to be dispatched.
- Monitors several public safety frequencies.
- May monitor fire and burglar alarm systems.
- Coordinates efforts with other public safety agencies as required.
- Uses radio and other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the scene of an emergency.
- Provides information to field personnel responding to fire alarms such as location of water supply, fire hazards, response routes etc.
- Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and with personnel from other agencies.
- Responds to National Warning System alerts.
- Operates teletype terminals and other data communications equipment to send, receive and record information.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be :
Experience :
One (1) year of experience as a Dispatcher for the City of Lemoore or two (2) years of experience involving the dispatching of emergency services.
Training :
Equivalent to graduation from high school.
License or Certificate
Possess and maintain a valid California Peace Officer Standard Training (P.O.S.T.) Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate.
Possess and maintain a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Special Requirements
Ability to type at a speed of 40 net words per minute
Ability to work irregular hours and variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and / or overtime
Ability to qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions :
Primarily works in a highly controlled access facility where public entry is heavily restricted.
Physical Conditions :
Sit / stand for extended periods of time at a desk and / or computer terminal without the ability to alternate positions; typing on a computer or keyboard on a routine basis; communicate orally, in person, on the phone and over radios; hear telephone conversations and normal radio communications with static or weak transmissions; visual ability to distinguish colors on Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) machines; routine visual ability for reading, watching, driving, and viewing computer screens; may in rare circumstances, be required to work in field requiring exposure to outdoor elements including weather extremes, loud noises and / or uneven terrain.

Public Employees' Retirement System : The City provides the PERS retirement program, 2% at 50 for Classic Members and 2% at 57 for New Members.
Holidays : Twelve (12) specific holidays, plus forty-eight (48) hours of floating holidays.
Vacation : Vacation leave starts at 11 days annually, increasing to 19 days based on time in service. Safety employees have the option to use the paid holiday or alternate day if scheduled on a holiday. Or get paid in lieu of the holiday.
Sick Leave : Sick leave accrual of 12 days per year with unlimited accumulation. At retirement, unused sick leave may be applied toward retirement.
