The City of Lexington is seeking an extraordinarily talented, self-motivated, excellent communicator, visionary, and self-aware deputy fire chief professional to join and work in concert with the Fire Chief to lead fire staff in providing fire, safety, and disaster mitigation services to the Lexington community utilizing recognized industry standards as benchmarks for success.
The Deputy Fire Chief performs advanced professional and administrative work in planning, coordinating and directing department activities under the general supervision of the Fire Chief. Work involves managing operations including the emergency response aspects of the department; participating in budget preparation and management; making recommendations for hiring, promotions, and equipment purchases; ensuring adequate staffing; guiding other leaders in personnel matters and disciplinary processes; creating management, operational, and project reports; and responding to emergency incidents to assist or assume command.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Administration or Public Administration
- Seven years’ progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in fire and life safety education, prevention and emergency response work
- Valid NC driver’s and good driving record
- NC Hazardous Materials Operations Certification
- Advanced NIMS: ICS 300, 400,
- ProBoard/IFSAC Technical Rescuer Certification
- ProBoard/IFSAC Fire Instructor II
- NC/IFSAC Fire Officer I and II required with Fire Officer III or ability to obtain within 24 months
- Advanced Incident Command Certificates or experience
- NC Fire Inspector Level III Standard Certificate or ability to obtain within 24 months.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Paid bi-weekly.
