Position: Arkalon Seasonal Camp Host
Department: Arkalon Park
Supervisor: Arkalon Director
FLSA: Part-Time Non-Exempt; work >1000 hrs per year
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to manage the operations of the Camp Host for Arkalon Park. The Camp Host maintains the Arkalon Park facility during the season. The Camp Host is a visible presence in the campground and around the ponds in the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure all individuals utilizing the Shelter have the shelter clean and are out of the park by closing.
- Make sure all non-paying visitors are out of the park before dark.
- Ensure campground is kept green on a continual basis. See annex for details
- Ensure the campground is mowed and trimmed and in good condition as warranted.
- Assist the part-time City seasonal employee with operational maintenance as needed.
- Collect camping fees. See annex for forms used.
- Collect the Shelter reservation form and payments. See annex for details
- Ensure the mens and womens bathrooms are cleaned and stocked as needed. See annex for details.
- Ensure regular maintenance is performed on the operation of the toilets and showers.
- Ensure the grills and fire rings located in the campground are properly maintained as needed.
- Assist the part-time City employee with the operational maintenance of the entire facility.
- Ensure the fishing areas are patrolled throughout the day.
- Contact the State Game Warden and/or Seward County Emergency Communications (Seward County Sheriffs office) when conditions warrant enforcement by the appropriate authority
- Maintain a monthly log of fuel. See annex for details.
- Recommended that Camp Host attend monthly Arkalon Council meetings.
- Recommend the camp host be available to address the publics needs between the hours of Noon to 8:00 p.m. See annex for details.
- The usage of the City vehicle is permissible for City of Liberal purposes only.
- Obtain prior permission to make purchases exceeding $200. See annex for details.
- Performs other essential or marginal functions as needed.
Required Knowledge/skills and Abilities:
Knowledge/skills:
- Ability to use computer software.
- Ability to communicate with the general public.

- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Establish priorities for own workload based upon such factors as the need for immediate action and work objectives.
- Understand and comply with oral and written instructions in the English language.
- Communicate orally with co-workers in face-to-face one-on-one settings, or using a telephone or two-way radio.
- Work cooperatively with other City employees.
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
Work Environment:
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
- Ability to move 50 pounds over a short distance
- Exposed to computer screens
Requirements:
Position requires the use of City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
This position is subject to the City of Liberals Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes one or more of the following: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, and follow-up testing.
