What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Technician position at City of Lincoln/Lancaster County?
Work Schedule:
Winter (November – April): Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Summer (April – November): Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Note: Hours may vary due to weather conditions or emergency needs (including weekends and holidays).
About the Role:
We’re seeking a skilled mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on a variety of medium and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background and preferably hold an Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certification.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on construction equipment
Perform routine maintenance and safety inspections
Maintain accurate service records
Collaborate with team members to ensure equipment readiness
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in medium/heavy equipment maintenance and repair
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and insurability under the County’s coverage
Must obtain a Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with necessary endorsements within 60 days of hire
Certification in Motor Vehicle Refrigerant Servicing (EPA Section 609) or the ability to obtain within 6 months
Additional Notes:
This is a safety-sensitive position and subject to mandatory drug testing.
Applicants with a CDL must register with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse before employment.
