In this hands-on role, you’ll help shape the city’s landscape by planting new trees and shrubs, maintaining existing greenery, and safely removing overgrowth when needed. - Operates tree planting and tree-trimming tools and equipment, including chippers, aerial lift truck, stump grinder, and tree spade; operates a bucket truck and earth-moving equipment, including backhoe, Bobcat, bulldozer, dump truck, and front-end loader, to prepare sites for planting, transplanting, and removal of trees.
- Operates chain saw, pole saw, hand saw, power saw, hand shears, pruner, power hedge trimmer, and other hand and power tools for tree maintenance and trimming; utilizes shovels, rakes and other hand tools to prepare and maintain areas around trees.
- Operates tree watering equipment.
- Operates light and heavy duty trucks with trailers to transport equipment and materials and to pick up equipment and supplies.
- Performs tree care duties including fertilizing, mulching, planting, pruning, removing diseased/hazardous trees and limbs, and watering.
- Operates equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License in the performance of the essential job functions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of eighth (8th) grade, one (1) year of experience in tree maintenance, landscaping, or a related area, to have included aerial experience; and one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position and must possess a valid Arkansas Class B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License with Air Brakes endorsement within ninety (90) days of employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
