JOB
Under general supervision, a lifeguard is a skillful swimmer, who performs such work as needed to preserve the health and safety of patrons utilizing the municipal swimming pool by preventing and responding to emergencies. The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Carries out duties as listed in the current Lodi City Pool Lifeguard Manual. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility. Acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency. Follows all safety procedures contained in the Lifeguard Manual and Blood Borne Pathogens Procedures. Patrols the pool and warns swimmers if they are not following the rules and regulations. Disciplines violators politely but firmly. Aware of all water hazards that can take place at the swimming pools. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of service. Experiences regular contact with other employees at the pool and with the public. Reports to the supervisor when he/she finds scarcity of equipment required for a rescue of a victim. Dresses in a manner befitting duties and responsibilities. Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports. Performs various maintenance duties and other assigned duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
