The Logan City Civil Service Commission hereby announces the recruitment of eligible applicants for the purpose of establishing a hiring roster with the Logan City Fire Department for the position of Firefighter Critical Care Paramedic. This position would afford the candidate of choice an opportunity to increase their knowledge and experience.
A Logan City Firefighter/Critical Care Paramedic may respond to a broad assortment of calls, both emergent and non-emergent, fire, medical, public assist calls, and public education, including but not limited to:
- Structure fires, both residential and
- Grassfires, wildland, and or Urban
- Fire or medical
- Medical calls, ranging from traffic accidents, heart attacks, seizures, assaults, and
- Public assist calls, ranging from helping a patient up off the floor, to helping cleanup a flooding problem.
- School visits and community education.
The Firefighter Critical Care Paramedic functions under the direction of their Shift Captain, Battalion Chief, EMS Assistant Chief, or otherwise designated by the Fire Chief.
Qualifications:
Every fire department employee shall assume responsibility that all their certifications, licenses and registrations are up to date. All continuing education requirements must be complete before the time of examination.
- Four years as a full-time Firefighter with the Logan City Fire Department. If the Firefighter has an Associate degree or higher, in a related field, they may test for the position at three years OR a performance rating of above standard as a paramedic as determined by LCFD Administration and Human Resources Director AND there are no qualified, additional in-house candidates.
- Minimum of three years' experience as a Paramedic OR a performance rating of above standard as a paramedic as determined by LCFD Administration and the Medical Control Physician.
- Must be a Utah Paramedic with NREMT-P Credential in good standing.
- Board-certified Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification (CCP-C) OR Board- certified Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) OR preparing to take final certification test in either Candidate must obtain certification within six months of promotion.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Must hold NIMSIS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 (National Incident Management System)
- Successfully complete Firefighter 2 certification through the Utah Fire Service Certification Council.
- Must hold a current Hazardous Materials certification at the level of Ops and Awareness.
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Exposure to stressful situations of considerable magnitude because of human behavior
- Moderately heavy physical activity. Required to stand, walk, or sit uncomfortably for extended periods of time. Exposure to disagreeable elements such as cold, dampness, heat from flame and burning material, toxic fumes, smoke, and noise. Intermittent exposure to hazardous materials.
- Subject to lifting 50 pounds or more, sometimes repeatedly.

- Resume, education and job performance review. This section will be rated at 15% of the composite score.
- A practical skills assessment based upon current CC-P level best practices as outlined in the IA MED "Flight Medical Provider Study Guide, FlightBridgeED FP-C / CFRN Certification Review, Logan City Fire Department CCP Policies - Current Concepts in Critical Care Transport." This section of the promotional process will be rated to a maximum of 30% of the composite score.
- All applicants will be given a written assessment. All test questions are referenced from the IA MED "Flight Medical Provider Study Guide - FlightBridgeED FP-C / CFRN Certification Review, Logan City Fire Department CCP Policies, and Current Concepts in Critical Care Transport." This section of the promotional process will be rated to a maximum of 25% of the composite score.
- Applicants will participate in an Oral Board interview and questioning by a panel of LCFD Admin, Logan City HR, and Medical Professionals. This section will be rated to a maximum of 30% of the composite score.
Candidates are responsible to ensure that all information is provided to the City for assessment. Copies of certifications and diplomas are required in order to receive credit; please attach copies to the application. Credit will not be given without proof or verification. Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Responds to fire alarms and extinguishes fire adhering to property conservation practices.
- Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water and removing debris.
- Always represent the department and city in a professional and courteous manner.
- Responds to calls for emergency medical services and renders aid.
- Cleans and inspects equipment and apparatus after returning from a fire.
- Inspects equipment and apparatus and notifies superior officer of any defects.
- Makes minor repairs to equipment and apparatus, performs routine preventative maintenance tasks, and keeps records of such action.
- Keeps fire station, equipment and grounds in a clean and orderly condition.
- Participates in training activities and instruction sessions.
- Acquires and retains a thorough knowledge of the city, including streets, buildings, water supply, unusual hazards and related items.
- Performs various public information or education tasks.
- Participates in fire prevention activities.
- Enters inspection, training, fire and emergency medical reports into the LCFD records management systems and software.
