What are the responsibilities and job description for the Personal Trainer position at City of Louisville?

- Develops training programs appropriate to each individual's needs and exercise level. Instructs participants in proper exercise techniques. Monitors participants and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and technique. Provides proper instruction for various muscle groups including mat work or dry-land work. Monitors proper clothing/shoes of clients. Provides safe training environment. Maintains current and accurate client notes and records.
- Be in communication with supervisor.
- Act in a professional manner at all times providing maximum customer service.
- Be aware of all the recreation center areas and staff, know who can assist you. Spend time developing a cooperative working relationship.
- Report all accidents, safety hazards, or conflicts to our supervisor immediately.
- While working, follow proper safety precautions, and review City of Louisville's Emergency Procedures.
- Anticipate unsafe circumstances and act accordingly in order to prevent accidents before they happen.
- Be responsible for the safety of self, participants, room, equipment, materials and other areas of the recreation center, inside and out.
- Perform CPR/AED and 1st Aid as needed.
We are looking for individuals who are adept at giving verbal instructions; working with, instructing, and supervising training clientele. We are also interested in candidates who remain current on trends in the fitness industry; work with limited supervision; work well with culturally diverse people; and can establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have current Personal Training certification.
- Previous experience in instructing individual clients or small groups in a fitness/wellness program in recreational facility setting preferred.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with participants, co-workers and supervisors, as well as to reason, problem solve and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Must have good work ethic, be reliable and on time for class.
- Must have a high desire to work with groups.
- Must have current Personal Training certification.
- Must possess current CPR/AED and 1st Aid certification or be willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
Work requires bending, and standing for long periods of time. Occasionally reaching, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, walking and the use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Requires physical exerting activity. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to see, hear and verbally communicate effectively. May have to speak loudly for participants to hear in a noisy environment.Work Environment: Work will be performed in an indoor environment which may include exposure to loud noise.
