Summary
Plans, supervises, and coordinates the operation and maintenance of city parks and recreational areas.
Essential Functions
- Plan, assign, and coordinate the work of crews engaged in maintaining park facilities;
- Interview, hire, and evaluate subordinate employees;
- Supervise activities such as turf maintenance, irrigation, fertilization, weed control, and maintenance of playgrounds and athletic fields;
- Assist in developing work standards and inspect work in progress;
- Assist in preparing department maintenance budget;
- Assist in development and presentation of safety training and other training programs;
- Order necessary tools, equipment, and materials;
- Meet with civic groups and coordinate volunteer efforts;
- Prepare reports for management;
- Answer citizen questions and complaints;
- Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor degree in park maintenance, horticulture, or landscape architecture with an additional three to five years landscape maintenance experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Valid Current Texas License
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- The methods, tools, and materials used in planting, cultivating, and caring for plants;
- Plant diseases and control;
- Power equipment used in park maintenance and of construction crafts required in maintenance of park building, grounds, and facilities.
- Schedule and direct the work of subordinates;
- Keep records and make reports;
- Establish and maintain effective relations with the public;
- Communicate effectively with others;
- Prepare and administer a budget.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 10 pounds
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift
- Frequently push and pull objects
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
- Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height
- Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
