What are the responsibilities and job description for the Two-Way Radio Technician position at City of Lubbock, TX?
Summary
Participate in testing, repairing, and maintaining various electronic and communications equipment.
Essential Functions
- Evaluate, test, and repair a wide variety of electronic equipment to component level, including computer controlled trunked radio systems, Laptop mounted equipment, traffic radar units, sound systems, communication links, TI circuits, channel banks, electronic sirens, automated fuel system, emergency lighting systems, video cameras, video monitors, emergency power systems, and closed circuit television;
- Integrate system assemblies and sub-assemblies during installation and implementation of base equipment infrastructure;
- Oversee 800 MHz radio system for proper and efficient operation, coordinate with other entities for access and service on City's radio system;
- Assist in developing and evaluate bid specifications and requests for proposal to procure high-tech equipment;
- Be on-call for critical system repair after normal business hours;
- Assist in maintain records of Radio sites and infrastructure;
- Assist in training of other Radio Shop personnel;
- Maintain safe and proper working conditions in and around the tower sites and Radio Shop;
- Assist in coordination services with the Radio Department customers;
- Attend training sessions and meetings;
- Assist Lead Shop Technician with day to day operations of all communications equipment.
- Responsible for maintaining tower sites.
- Design and implement radios and communications systems.
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent with an additional five years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of RF systems (Radio) and related electronic equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills:

Valid current driver's license

Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Recordkeeping and inventory control.
- Extensive knowledge of Radio and RF equipment.
Ability/Skill to:
- Communicate effectively with others.
- Test, calibrate, and repair a variety of two-way radio and electronic equipment.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Read electronic schematics and diagrams,
- Ability to maintain City of Lubbock FCC License.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently walk and stand during the shift;
- Climb ladders, stairs, and other inclined surfaces;
- Frequently bend and kneel during the shift;
- Continuously carry up to 25 pounds, and frequently carry up to 50 pounds;
- Push and pull objects;
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees;
- Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left or right while sitting or standing;
- Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
