Summary
The purpose of this position is to accurately locate water and sewer lines as requested in advance of construction activities. Inspect and enforce rules and ordinances related to franchise utilities Right-of Way construction and permits
Essential Functions
- Inspect construction operations including ditch compaction and roadway repairs;
- Respond to requests from citizens, home builders, and general contractors for location of water or sewer lines in advance of construction activities;
- Locate water and sewer lines using a variety of equipment. Mark location of lines to prevent damage resulting from construction;
- Assist customer service employees in locating manholes, meters, and service lines;
- Enforce City of Lubbock Ordinance Chapter 36.09 and City of Lubbock Excavation Manual, issue ordinance violation tickets as needed;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of college education or specialized advanced training in construction methods or procedures with and additional two years of experience dealing with construction methods or procedures.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of :
Public Works processes and procedures.
Ability to :
Communicate effectively with others.
Maintain detailed records on pipe specifications including location, size, depth, and type of material.
Physical Requirements
Frequently stand and walk during the shift.
Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and other inclined surfaces.
Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift.
Push and pull objects.
Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
Occasionally rotate upper trunk to the left and right while sitting or standing.
Place arms above, at, and below shoulder height.
Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
