The Lynchburg Circuit Court Clerk's Office is seeking an energetic, hard-working individual for a full-time position as Deputy Clerk assigned to the Recordation Division. Must possess excellent customer service skills, have strong typing skills, and be very knowledgeable in computer applications.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Responsible for greeting and assisting customers
- Answering phone and directing calls
- Processing payments as ordered by the court (court costs and fines; restitution)
- Docketing and indexing judgments & posting for review
- Processing ordination applications and issuing certificates
- Administering oaths to Notary Publics, as well as, oaths for other entities
- Setting up court costs and payment schedules for defendants
- Recording and coping Military Discharge (DD214)
- Processing concealed handgun permits
- Processing daily mail and responding to correspondences
- Processing writs on Virginia Employment Commission & etc.
- Taxation collections
- Accepting passport applications
- Processing marriage licenses
- Receipting SRA/OCRA applications
- Processing end of the month reports
- Indexing documents for office
- Assisting customers in locating documents within the Records Room
- Assisting supervisor or the clerk with other tasks as requested
When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
Minimum Education and Experience Required

Education, Experience and Technical Skills
Graduation from high school. Prefer but not required, completion of 30 credit hours of related college courses (2 years related experience may be substituted). Prefer considerable (3-5 years) related experience. Demonstrates intermediate Microsoft Office skills, advanced skills in 2 or more MS Office applications, and intermediate skill in specific job-related application and equipment.
Additional Requirements
- Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
- Depending on work assignment, may be required to obtain Notary Public license.
- Depending on work assignment, may be required to have a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria.
- Relevant background checks must be completed and approved.
