What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Safety and Training Coordinator position at City of Lynchburg?
Leads/performs department-wide equipment, tools, job task and emergency related training; oversees specialized technical training program for maintenance crews which includes roadway, roadside, bridge, landscaping, park maintenance and other public works related job duties and tasks, etc.;
Works with the Operations Support Manager, Safety Specialist and leadership to assess, create, develop, implement and promote training programs and initiatives;
Coordinates and manages the Commercial Driver’s License training program with the City’s contractor, staff, supervisors and managers to include Water Resources;
Tracks employee licenses, endorsements, certifications, and training;
Researches and monitors regulatory requirements that apply to employees and the work of the department;
Collaborates with department managers, Safety Specialist and other City departments to prepare training requests for proposals;
Provides required safety training to newly hired employees:
Assists with obtaining and issuing PPE;
Collaborates with department staff, Risk Management and Human Resources, to incorporate federal, state and City policy and other rules and regulations into the development of training;
Maintains confidentiality of all personnel, accounting and finance records;
Performs site visits and training program reviews with similar external agencies and vendors to maintain current industry standard training related to City owned tools and equipment;
Assist with investigation of employee accidents, injuries and safety training;
Performs quarterly stormwater inspections;
Required to respond to Public Works Emergencies in the appropriate capacity;
Assists with following up on vehicle maintenance schedules.
Six (6) years of experience in construction, Public Works, industrial plant and/or maintenance experience; AND two (2) years of experience developing, coordinating, and facilitating training; OR, any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Experienced in safety training and industry standards.
A valid Virginia State Driver's License is required with an approved driving record based on the City of Lynchburg criteria
A valid State of Virginia Traffic Flagging Card or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
A valid First Aid Card and CPR card are required or ability to obtain within 1 yearof employment.
Salary : $42,328 - $78,562
