Job Summary
Under the daily guidance of the Network Administrator, the primary responsibility of the Computer Support Technician I is to provide efficient technical assistance and support to city employees. This role focuses on addressing their computer systems and software application-related concerns while ensuring timely resolution of hardware and software issues. The IT Support Technician I also collaborates with the IT team on various projects, providing minimal assistance as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
User Support and Diagnostics
- Respond promptly to internal staff members' requests for assistance with computer or network problems.
- Assist users of varying levels of technical expertise in the installation and configuration of software applications commonly used by employees.
- Install, upgrade, and troubleshoot computers, printers, and other equipment.
- Maintain user accounts and ensure network system access and availability.
- Assist with Network and hardware upgrades.
Monitoring, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting
- Monitor system performance, usage, and overall security through routine processes and reports.
- Collaborate with the IT team to ensure compliance with software licensing policies and other IT procedures.
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining the functionality of computer hardware and software.
- Perform workstation and network upgrades of hardware and software as necessary.
Project Assistance
- Provide minimal assistance on IT projects as assigned by the Network Administrator.
- Collaborate closely with the IT team to ensure continuous employee support while the team is working on projects.
OTHER DUTIES
- Attend professional development workshops and conferences to stay updated on industry trends and developments.
- Foster effective working relationships and contribute to staff committees as assigned.
- Support the City's mission, vision, and core values in all aspects of job performance.
- Performs other related duties as needed and assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Associate degree from an accredited institution in information technology, computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the incumbent with the necessary qualifications may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Proficiency in using a service desk system to log, track, and resolve user support requests efficiently.
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and operating systems.
- Familiarity with common software applications used by internal staff, such as Microsoft Office.
- Understanding of network concepts and troubleshooting to provide support for internal network-related issues.
- Basic understanding of computer networks, protocols, and configurations.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve user issues effectively.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills for providing support to internal staff members.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written, to explain technical concepts to non- technical users.
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate effectively with other IT support staff.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and systems.
- Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated with industry trends and advancements in
IT support.
- Dedication to providing high-quality support and ensuring user satisfaction among internal staff.
Special Requirements:
- Must have a valid driver's license and appropriate insurance at the time of hire for work related travel.
- Must pass appropriate background checks.
