The City of Lynnwood is seeking a Operator II to join their Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP!)
Individuals assigned to this position are responsible for learning and performing the operation and maintenance of a secondary wastewater treatment plant under close supervision. Responsibilities include maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements and permits, maintenance of equipment, and choice of appropriate timing and treatment techniques for sewage processing. - Monitor operation of wastewater treatment facility and adjust process to ensure efficient operation.
- Assure proper equipment operations and report any failures or operational issues to lead operator or supervisor; monitor variable drives, various pumps, motors and drive units for proper operation. Assist with required maintenance, repair or replacement.
- Operate, monitor and adjust associated odor control and air quality monitoring equipment according to established procedures to ensure permit compliance.
- Monitor systems to ensure process is within established parameters; ensure that the control strategies are properly configured for flow distributions, dissolved oxygen levels, maintenance of temperatures and pressures within acceptable ranges and instrument calibration.
- Enter process tanks and other confined spaces in order to perform inspections, cleaning, and maintenance.
- Adjust equipment and processes based on various elements and as directed by supervision or as necessary to operate machinery with corrections noted.
- Collect and perform routine laboratory analyses on samples of water, sewage and biosolids; monitor air emissions as required to determine the effectiveness of sewage treatment processes and compliance with state and federal regulations regarding air and water pollution control.
- Maintain appropriate records of operations and maintenance.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment on a regular schedule. Grease and lubricate machinery and exercise valves.
- Perform housekeeping on a regular basis to maintain efficient operation of processes which includes duties such as hosing floors, cleaning scum and other assigned tasks.
- Conduct training of wastewater treatment operators at lower level as assigned.
- Ensure all safety equipment is on hand and in good working condition.
- Ensure that all safety equipment and procedures are being followed by operators.
- Set up for confined space entry.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of chemistry affecting treatment plant operations.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations standards, and reporting requirements affecting treatment plant operations.
- Knowledge of safety and health hazards inherent to a sewage treatment plant.
- Knowledge of business math.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively with others.
- Ability to interact professionally with the public, other agency personnel, and fellow workers.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to analyze laboratory tests and procedures.
