General Description
As an Aquatic Supervisor you will help oversee the City of Madison Aquatics Program. The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Goodman Pool. They ensure standards are maintained for the City of Madison Aquatics Program. Responsibilities include assisting with payroll, scheduling, chemicals, teaching in-services, responding to emergencies, and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures as needed. They report directly to the Aquatics and Parks Program Coordinator and/or the Recreation Services Coordinator. This position requires advanced knowledge of aquatics and conflict resolution. The Aquatic Supervisor also helps oversee the City of Madison Beach’s and Splash Parks.
Hours: Hours of work vary based on seasonal needs. During the peak season of May to September, the Aquatics Supervisor will work 40 hours per week. Hours worked in preparation for the summer season and season closing will be reduced.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
This position will assist in directing the City of Madison Parks Division’s Aquatics Program, acting as the manager on duty when the Aquatic and Parks Program Coordinator is not on site. This position will report to the Aquatic and Parks Program Coordinator, Recreation Services Coordinator, and will be a part of the Aquatic Management Team. The Aquatics Supervisor will direct the actions of the Head Lifeguards and coordinate with the Head Attendants to ensure that the Aquatic Program objectives are completed, and procedures are followed. This position will also:
- Assist with the implementation, planning, and execution of in-services.
- Monitor facility safety, cleanliness, and ensure chemicals are within appropriate limits
- Manage staff certifications
- Assist with American Red Cross certification courses
- Schedule aquatic staff, prepare aquatic reports, assist with payroll, assist Lifeguards, Head Lifeguards, Attendants, and Head Attendants with difficult patrons in accordance with the Goodman Pool Youth Behavior Policy/Suspension Notice, rules, and policies
- Direct Attendant staff to ensure accountability for loss control, enforcement of proper cash handling procedures, and ensure accuracy of cash at night
- Assist in the review and implementation of staff manuals, standard operating procedures, emergency action plans, and lifeguard vigilance awareness test
- Interacting with patrons, making and returning phone calls, emails, and working with other programs within the City of Madison Parks Division
- Provide constructive feedback to subordinates
- Provide high quality customer service
- Attend weekly Head Lifeguard and Aquatic Management Team meetings
- Assist with first aid and emergencies as needed, up to and including calling EMS
- Assist the Aquatic and Parks Program Coordinator with the maintenance and cleanliness of the beaches and splash parks
- Ensure that the Aquatic Programs’ objectives are being met at the City of Madison beaches
- Work as a Lifeguard, Head Lifeguard, Attendant, and Head Attendant as needed
- Perform related work as required
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience performing lifeguard duties, which included progressive levels of responsibility.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
If applicant does not possess the specific requirements outlined above, HR will review the application materials to determine if the applicant possesses the following equivalent experience:
Four (4) years of experience in applying the following:
- Aquatics related American Red Cross Standards.
- Aquatics facility safety principles, pool operations, and facility maintenance principles.
- Supervisor techniques.
- Cash handling procedures.
