Positions designated as bilingual receive a $1.00 per hour pay differential for hours worked. This differential is not included in the stated salary amounts.
The Marketing and Communications Specialist at the Madison Public Library will serve as an ambassador for Madison Public Library through developing many communications aimed at advancing the library's visibility in the community and increasing direct engagement with library events, services, and spaces. This position will focus on creating consistent and engaging messages that are in alignment with the Library’s overall marketing goals, strategic plan, and mission, vision and values. This position is responsible for communicating key messages in collaboration with staff, community partners, funders, and other important stakeholders across multiple platforms.
The Marketing and Communications Specialist will :
- Create and distribute promotional and communications materials for a wide variety of diverse audiences;
- Participate in the promotional design process including graphic design of flyers, web content, and social media;
- Create or oversee video and audio communications;
- Coordinate communication work of staff, partners, interns, and volunteers;
- Promote media relations for the library;
- Plan and implement special events.
Under general supervision of the Library Media Coordinator, work involves the exercise of independent judgment and initiative in the management of projects and activities.

Ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position. Travel is required for the position in order to get to events and to travel between the nine library locations.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends or other time outside the library’s regular open hours, when needed.
This position is bilingual and the finalist will be required to complete a language proficiency test at the time of the pre-employment screening process. Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish is required.
Physical Requirements
The employee will be expected to transport up to 25 pounds of marketing supplies for tabling events, including lifting, pulling, or pushing items in boxes or carts on occasion.
The employee must be able to sit or stand while working on a computer for extended periods of time.
The employee must have the ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) in order to do event photography, graphic design, writing and editing, and other marketing-related tasks.
