Starting Salary Wage: $17.50 per hour Closing Date: 01/04/2025
Workdays/Shifts and Hours: Weeknights, 5:45 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Position Purpose: The essential function of the MPRD sports official is to officiate youth and/or adult games, events, and tournaments to maintain standards of play for applicable competitions facilitated through the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department. These leagues are scheduled to run January through early March.
Job Duties
- Officiate MPRD Basketball games, make judgements, and instruct players on the rules of the game.
- Attend sport-specific trainings and meetings.
- Provide communication to and from coaches and participants including about the principles of good sportsmanship.
- Maintain a safe and positive playing environment including inspecting sporting equipment and/or examining participants to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, department personnel and the public, and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Concentrate and clearly communicate in situations with multiple distractions.
- Other duties assigned.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Additional Qualifications
- Ability to learn sport rules and regulations.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of and experience with adult/youth sports, game rules, and regulations.

- This is not a KPERS covered position.
