Under the direction of a Commander, the Law Enforcement Technical Support Specialist – Financial Crimes performs all duties in the assigned area of the Police Division, and performs related work as directed with an emphasis on financial crimes.

Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience:
- Must possess an Associate's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, computer science, business or related field.
- Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the job proficiently may be substituted for the above requirements.
Nature of Work:
Under the direction of a Commander, the Law Enforcement Technical Support Specialist – Financial Crimes performs all duties in the assigned area of the Police Division, and performs related work as directed with an emphasis on financial crimes.
Primary Essential Work Functions:
- Conducts financial crime investigations (e.g., theft, fraud, forgery) by documenting initial complaints; interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects; collecting relevant evidence; and preparing accurate, detailed reports to build a case for prosecution.
- Assists with intelligence gathering and surveillance of suspects.
- Processes crime scenes by documenting, photographing, and collecting evidence.
- Executes search warrants.
- Interviews witnesses and canvases neighborhoods.
- Performs crime scene documentation through sketching, still photography and video photography.
- Searches for, identifies, collects, and preserves evidence, from inside and outside locations, in all weather conditions.
- Provides accurate, detailed descriptions of persons, vehicles, and objects.
- Provides testimony in court.
- Monitors pawnshops for ordinance violations and stolen property.
- Prepares and distributes annual licensing renewal packets.
- Compiles requested photo lineups to aid in positive identification of suspects.
- Provides community and victim notification regarding predatory offenders, monitors offenders for non- compliance requirements.
- Prepares, coordinates, and conducts community public speaking presentations on police service and crime prevention topics.
- Performs digital forensic examinations.
- Creates reports from information obtained from digital forensic examinations.
- Disseminates intelligence information to describe crime patterns, trends, and potential suspects.
- Reviews and analyzes calls for service to determine trends and assist with deployment of resources.
- Creates timelines, charts, and graphs from compiled information.
- Performs physical and mental demands and work environment requirements for this position.
- Attendance during regularly scheduled work hours and outside regular hours as necessary.
- Effective and respectful communication and interactions with other employees, supervisors, individuals from other organizations, and community customers.
- Performs other related work as assigned or apparent.

Conditions of Employment:
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Must possess a valid license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.
- Satisfactory completion of a psychological evaluation from a licensed psychologist.
- Satisfactory completion of a department background investigation, fingerprinting, and physical examination.
- Must comply with organizational and departmental policies.
- Must comply with data practices policies and standards relative to not public data. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished the not public data must be properly stored according to city policy and the Minnesota Statutes.
