PT Law Enforcement Specialist (20 hours per week)

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Deputy, this position provides general support to the agency utilizing general knowledge of agency programs,
policies, and procedures.  Provides high functioning knowledge of the department’s role in supporting and assisting with appropriate courtroom behavior and etiquette consistent with a law enforcement agency.
These duties represent the typical duties and responsibilities assigned to this position but may not be inclusive of all tasks performed.

1.Provide security by patrolling interior and exterior of courthouse and escorting judges and other court employees.
2.Enforce courtroom rules of behavior and warn persons not to smoke or disturb court procedure.
3.Maintain order in courtroom during trial and guard jury from outside contact.
4.Check courtroom for security and cleanliness and assure availability of sundry supplies, such as notepads, for use by judge, jurors, and attorneys.
5.Provide service and general assistance to jurors and other court room attendees.
6.Performs accurate entry of critical and sensitive information into various databases by closely following established processes and procedures. 
7.Transport offenders via passenger vehicles and busses to various destinations such as courts, jails, prisons, medical centers and other specified locations. 
8.Escort offenders into surroundings requiring contact with court, hospital, medical personnel and the public. 
9.Ensure a safe and controlled travel environment. 
10.Place restraint devices on offenders for security during transport. Ensures secure environment when devices are removed. 
11.Implements new procedures and systems and trains staff. 
12.Perform preemployment background investigations for potential sheriff department hires. 
13.Collect, examine, preserving, and documenting evidence at crime scenes. 
14.Prepare property and evidence for shipment and/or transport to crime laboratories and other destinations as needed.

Education/Experience:
1.High School Graduate, GED, or HSED.
2.Five years of work experience in a legal and/or law setting preferred. 
3.Proficiency with MS Word, Outlook and Excel. 
4.Strong oral / written communication skills and interpersonal skills. 
5.Experience involving significant interactions with the public, law and justice agencies, and other local government preferred. 
6.Must possess or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Skills Assessment Requirements: Awareness of others’ reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly in speaking so others will understand. Problem solving to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences, and can concentrate for long periods of time without being distracted.
