Examples Of Work To Be Performed
- Maintain or assist in the maintenance of general ledger subsidiary records of financial transactions.
- Review and classify financial data and verify mathematical computations.
- Prepare standard financial reports from maintained records.
- Maintain records of receipts and obligations; audit and prepare vouchers for payment.
- Examine checks, vouchers and other documents for conformance with established laws and regulations.
- Perform accounts payable duties.
- Handle miscellaneous billing and cash receipting for the department.
- Ability to handle payroll duties in a backup role.
- Prepare the billing file for city’s public improvement district(s).
- Maintain and reconcile petty cash.
- Assist in preparing files for the city’s annual audit.
- Ability to assist in other activities and special projects as needed or directed.

Required Knowledge Skills And Abilities
- Working knowledge of bookkeeping principles and practices.
- Working knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to use a posting, adding, or calculating machine.
- Knowledge in operation of PC.
- Ability to understand and apply established rules and regulations to the maintenance of financial records.
- Ability to prepare routine reports from financial records.
- High school diploma or equivalent and one year experience in position utilizing accounting and arithmetic procedures, or Associates Degree in accounting or similar area.
- Additional training or experience in a related field.
The Accounting Clerk II position primarily involves working in an office environment with the following physical demands and environmental conditions:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for the majority of the workday, primarily sitting to perform computer-based tasks and other office duties.
- Occasionally moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and positions self to access files at various heights in file cabinets.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and accurately. Must be able to exchange accurate information in person and over the phone.
- Occasionally moves boxes of files or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds within the office.
- The worker must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspection involving small parts and details.
