The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking Water Safety Instructors! In this role, you will teach students of all ages the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Come make a difference by joining our growing and diverse community!
Responsibilities
- Maintain safety of students and pool area at all times.
- Familiarization and enforcement of all pool policies and rules to students and peers.
- Full knowledge of the progression card skills for each program level.
- Begin classes promptly, and make use of the entire class time by demonstrating skills and activities (must be in water with students).
- Prepare progression cards prior to the start of lessons.
- Teach students the skills on the progression cards using a variety of activities in a positive manner.
- Provide individual feedback as well as group feedback throughout the class.
- Be a positive role model for students by wearing appropriate attire in pool area including the following: one-piece suit, swim cap if applicable i.e. hair and jewelry standards.
- Teach students the skills on the progression cards, test them throughout class sessions. Pass students on to the next level when they have completed all of the designated skills.
- Prepare classes before instruction starting time for safety and convenience of the students and instructors.
- Clean and sanitize pool area between lessons and at the end of daily lessons, and return all supplies to proper storage area.
- Complete accident reports and other forms as needed.
- Participate in emergency training and other in-services.
- Work cooperatively with others.
- Perform other related duties as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications
Need to have:
- Must be at least 15 years of age or older
- Current American Red Cross Certification as a Water Safety Instructor or ability to obtain.
Nice to have:
- Experience teaching various ages and levels of swimming lessons
- Fluent in a foreign language or sign language
- Customer service experience
