Description: Responsible for the day-to-day support, operation and various planning aspects of the City's computing network and some city staff training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
In coordination and at the direction of Deputy City Manager / City IT Contractor:
Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, and improvements of the City’s computer systems, networks, phone systems and communication systems.
Advises on and develops aspects of computerized information system configuration and installation as needed. Advises regarding machine acquisition and needs assessment. Assists in development of solutions that are consistent with the computing environment.
Installs and configures hardware and software. Monitors computer resource utilization and performance. Assists with deployment of computer resources and monitors usage thereof.
Interviews users to analyze and document their information needs; assists in development of solutions that are consistent with the computing environment.
Research and responds to technical questions regarding the operation of computing system functions. Works with the existing security and IT services provider to ensure accurate billing and IT needs are being met.
Manages security, backup, and recovery procedures to ensure system integrity. Monitors networks on a regular basis to ensure the integrity of these systems including auditing backups, testing restoration, monitoring virus protection, monitoring network statistics, and overseeing system security.
Works with individual Departments to develop procedures and policies relating to the use of automated systems pertinent to the necessary operations of those Departments.
Trains users and department staff.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems relating to both hardware and software in all departments. Perform preventive and remedial maintenance of computer equipment such as terminals, modems, printers, microcomputers, disk drives and cables in all City departments.
May need to assist staff in maintaining and operating Audio-Visual equipment for all City meetings at Fire Station 14, City Hall, and other City venues that may be used. These duties include being present at City meetings to run the audio-visual equipment, ensuring that all meetings are recorded and otherwise documented and preserved for future review as needed.
Is responsible for managing and maintaining the City’s telephone and cellular service.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
A vocational, technical or associates degree in a related field and experience with complex network computer systems. Extensive knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft application and operating system software required. Additional experience using proprietary software, such as ESRI ArcGIS, VueWorks, and/or other work-flow management software tools is helpful. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. Prior experience with similar hardware, software, and network systems and familiarity with local government information systems is desirable.
Other Skills and Abilities: Must be able to perform a wide variety of computerized information system functions, and work with other departments throughout the City. The ability to monitor several tasks at a time is essential. Independent judgment and analytic skill is necessary. Ability to utilize traditional and non-traditional support services. Activities are a major source of potential liability to the City.
