POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: WASTE WATER PLANT OPERATOR

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The essential function of the position within the organization is to ensure the waste water from the City of McAlester is properly treated and to discharge into the receiving stream.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Responsible for running various test and recording results of the test; Test may include
Dissolved Oxygen Tests, MLSS test for basins, TSS test, CBOD test, etc.
Record Ph readings.
Clean and bleach weirs.
Distill ammonia samples and record results.
Shovel sludge out of drying beds.
Lubricate and repair equipment, pumps, motors, etc.
Clean drying beds and clarifier.
Set-up and calibrate equipment; Ensure all equipment is operating correctly.
Tear down and clean pumps to prevent clogs.
Cleaning screens and adjust the flow that enters into the plant by a series of gates and pumps to maintain a consistent flow through the plant.
Care and maintenance of grounds and buildings; Mow, weed-eat, clean waste beds, and send waste to digesters.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
Requires valid driver’s license. Requires state Class D license within one year of employment.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Requires one year of related experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires light work involving standing or walking some of the time, exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular basis, and moderate dexterity in operating machinery, tools, or office equipment.

The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards. May sometimes be exposed to extreme heat/cold, wet or humid conditions, bright/dim lights, an dust or pollen.
