The Water Polo Coach will develop and instruct the McHenry Parks & Recreation water polo program for participant ages 9 years old to adults. The will nurture the development and swim mechanics in participants while providing a safe and controlled environment. Instructor is responsible for planning game play / drills, motivating students, controlling game play / dynamics, and properly demonstrating techniques.
They play an integral role in the development of building strong character values in our community and growing the sport of polo. The staff is a representative of the philosophy, mission, and goal of the City of McHenry and its parks and recreation department. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with the Aquatics Supervisor / Aquatics Coordinator and fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the City of McHenry Parks & Recreation department.
Job Duties
DECISION MAKING AND JUDGEMENT
- Organize and direct small group activities / exercises as appropriate for each athlete's abilities
- Instruct and demonstrate appropriate water polo skills to participants
- Ability to handle and resolve conflicts between participants and enforce a safe learning environment
- Actively engage athletes for the duration of class
- Develop lessons to meet class size and needs along with flexibility to adjust class based on participants abilities
- Be responsible for maintaining order and discipline within assigned group
- Display professionalism with athletes and spectators at all times
ADMINISTRATIVE
Will be at your program area and set up at least 15 minutes prior to start of scheduled activitiesDisplays appropriate role model behavior and maintains honest, trustworthy, and responsible conduct towards participants, other employees, and spectatorsKeep program areas clean, neat, and organized to optimize customer satisfactionDistributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to participantsReadies all equipment and necessary teaching tools prior to the start or classNever leaves athletes in the water unsupervised and doesn't leave the pool deck until the last participant is out of the waterMaintain inventories and report any equipment problems or needs to the Aquatics CoordinatorReport any incidents or conflicts directly to Aquatics Coordinator / Aquatics Supervisor within 24 hoursTaking attendance daily and collecting daily admissions from participants. Money collected must be delivered to Aquatics Supervisor within 24 hoursAbility to attend regular scheduled program events, trainings, and additional meetings as neededPerform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining welcome packets, emergency data, and other recordsSubmit attendance rosters and timesheets in a timely mannerSUPERVISION
Maintains order and safety in swimming areasAlways assists in enforcing city and aquatics policiesKeep accurate count of athletes in programAccountable for set-up and take-down of equipment for programModels nondiscriminatory practices in all activitiesPHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
