What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head swim instructor - Part Time position at City of Melbourne?
Under the close supervision of the Swim Lesson Coordinator, performs varied duties associated with implementing, coordinating, and supervising the City's swim lesson program. Supervision is exercised over swim instructors. May be required to work as needed as a Pool Manager. Work requires flexible hours (mornings and evenings).

- Monitors and supervises swim lesson usage by patrons.
- Opens and secures facility for swim lessons.
- Maintains class attendance and course records.
- Performs general housekeeping practices in the aquatic facility.
- Ensures the safety of class participants.
- Performs duties as assigned by coordinator when necessary.
- Teaches swim lessons when needed.
- Physically adapts swimming pool for daily usage by swim lesson patrons.
- Balance and maintain proper pool chemical levels and performs basic pool maintenance.
- Enforce rules and regulation of proper facility use.
- Answers phone, handles money and record keeping for class registration
- May perform duties of Pool Manager when necessary.
- Receives citizen complaints and inquires and takes or recommends appropriate action.
- Six (6) weeks (one summer session) experience as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and experience teaching at all skill levels.
- Must have working cell phone and email address for contact purposes.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations: - Must possess American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or obtain within one (1) month of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License. Must be able to swim 200 yards (4 full swimming pool laps).
- Must possess CPR for the professional, Advanced First Aid, and Red Cross Lifeguard and AED certifications or obtain within one (1) month of employment and maintain throughout employment.
- Knowledge of current swimming techniques, CPR and First Aid.
- Effectively interpret and implement Red Cross curriculum and guidelines for swim lessons.
- Ability to determine the appropriate skill level for participants.
- Good knowledge of the techniques, materials and equipment used in the operations of a Swim Lesson Program.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing pool chemistry and management.
- Ability to responsibly oversee the use of the swimming pool for swim lessons.
- Ability to investigate and resolve citizen complaints and inquiries.
- Ability to successfully demonstrate all swimming strokes.
- Ability to understand and communicate with children.
- Ability to lift children in the swim lesson program.
- Ability to walk, stand, reach, kneel and lift throughout the working day and participate in activities that require physical dexterity.

- Ability to work in cold, heat, wetness, and around noise, fumes, and odors.
