JOB SUMMARY: Under close supervision, assists Water Safety Instructors (WSI) providing swim lesson instruction to youth of all ages and abilities, following Red Cross’ Youth Swim Program for Preschool levels 1-3 and Learn to Swim levels 1-6; enforce pool rules; and performs other related duties, as assigned
SUPERVISION: Swim Program Manager, Recreation Director
HOURS: Approximately 10-15 hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS: American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certification preferred. Punctuality. Dependability – follow through. Attention to detail and ability to accept direction. Positive image and tidy appearance. Effective communication skills. Flexibility. Ability to interact with the Public. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Be familiar with the recreation department swim program levels and descriptions. Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe. Assess abilities of students to ensure each student is placed in the appropriate level. Demonstrate willingness to learn and follow through on guidance provided by WSIs and managers. Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress. Ensure compliance with Satellite Beach Recreation Department policies and procedures. Correspond through written and verbal communications. Attend scheduled staff trainings and meetings.
