$20.67- $25.44/ hour to start, based on experience phone allowance, jeans, boots, summer and winter gear (coat included), will train for CDL
Position Description
This position is responsible to support the City of Merriam’s mission by helping to present well-maintained, clean, and sanitary City properties; these duties will be performed in a safe manner, while promoting the City of Merriam’s values.
Essential Functions
- Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance of facilities, equipment and grounds
- Maintains records both electronic and written related to inspections and maintenance
- Provides well-maintained exterior grounds by sweeping, keeping rain gutters clean and functioning, removing snow/ ice buildup from sidewalks, and picking up litter
- Keeps and accurate inventory of supplies and informs supervisor when items need to be replenished
- Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and other unskilled to semi-skilled trade work
- Maintains clean premises to include windows, walls, metal, woodwork
- Inspects HVAC and performs seasonal maintenance on equipment
- Installs office equipment and arranges furniture as requested
- Operating small powered equipment such as leaf blowers and power washers
- Maintains beautified grounds including watering, weed removal, mulching, and some limb removal/trimming
- Maintains interior of City-owned buildings by performing custodial care duties
- Operates lawnmower, edger, string trimmer, snow blower, and trimmers
- Driving City-owned vehicles; will load, haul, unload equipment, gravel, sand and salt in a variety of weather conditions
- Promotes city values at all times
- Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and to follow oral and /or written instruction
- Ability to work without the need for close supervision; keeping personal safety in mind
- Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
- Working knowledge of various equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have an acceptable driving record
- Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a city vehicle
- Must be able to read and comprehend instructions both verbal and written
- Must be physically capable of working outside and inside in all weather conditions in a physically active manne
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 1 year of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair
- Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
