This position is responsible to support the City of Merriam’s mission by helping to present well-maintained, clean, and sanitary City properties; these duties will be performed in a safe manner, while promoting the City of Merriam’s values.

Essential Functions

• Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance of facilities, equipment and grounds
• Maintains records both electronic and written related to inspections and maintenance
• Provides well-maintained exterior grounds by sweeping, keeping rain gutters clean and functioning, removing snow/ ice buildup from sidewalks, and picking up litter
• Keeps and accurate inventory of supplies and informs supervisor when items need to be replenished
• Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor covering, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and other unskilled to semi-skilled trade work
• Maintains clean premises to include windows, walls, metal, woodwork
• Inspects HVAC and performs seasonal maintenance on equipment
• Installs office equipment and arranges furniture as requested
• Operating small powered equipment such as leaf blowers and power washers
• Maintains beautified grounds including watering, weed removal, mulching, and some limb removal/trimming
• Maintains interior of City-owned buildings by performing custodial care duties
• Operates lawnmower, edger, string trimmer, snow blower, and trimmers
• Driving City-owned vehicles; will load, haul, unload equipment, gravel, sand and salt in a variety of weather conditions
• Promotes city values at all times
• Wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and to follow oral and /or written instruction
• Ability to work without the need for close supervision; keeping personal safety in mind
• Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
• Working knowledge of various equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have an acceptable driving record
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a city vehicle
• Must be able to read and comprehend instructions both verbal and written
• Must be physically capable of working outside and inside in all weather conditions in a physically active manne

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 1 year of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair
• Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
