Nature of Work
Professional Civil Engineer working in the planning design, construction, inspection and maintenance of a variety of public works projects and facilities.
Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties
- Responsible for the design and development of construction plans and specifications for roads, bridges, water supply systems, street lights, street parking, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management systems, and other public works facilities.
- Reviews field surveys to develop information required for design and construction of public works projects
- Reviews plans for public works projects for compliance with standards
- Reviews engineering reports, basis of design reports, and regulatory compliance filings; ensures that reports are detailed, methodical, and provide clear logic for engineering designs and decisions
- Makes recommendations for upgrades and improvements to city facilities
- Supervises the preparation of cost estimates for public works projects
- Develops engineering procedures
- Supervises the inspection of various public works construction projects
- Performs related work as required
- Performs the duties of a Project Engineer, when required.
- Develops maintenance of traffic plans
