What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Planner position at City of Miami Beach?
- Reviews building permit applications for compliance with the City’s Land Development Regulations and applicable board orders
- Performs planning studies developing scenarios to support policy changes which includes the preparation of project outlines, selection of data sources, and detailing of plans for reports for elements of the comprehensive plan, major zoning changes, design review of proposed projects, historic preservation issues, or business district project planning
- Works closely with development teams and their consultants
- Prepares long-range planning recommendations related to land use and zoning issues, amendments to the Land Development Regulations and Comprehensive Plan, and other regulating documents
- Assists the public and architects with information on land use, zoning, and development issues and inquiries
- May be required to prepare and attend and make presentations at meetings, organize and staff workshop and special meetings, research and compose Resolutions, Appeals, Special Reports, and Commission Memos
- May assist staff of the Design Review Board, the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment, and Historic Preservation Board
- Assists with graphical and other support materials at/for meetings and public hearings
- Recommends procedures and methods for the collection of research data
- Calculates and assesses impact and other fees
- Reviews inquiries from other agencies and the general public; researches problems raised and prepares replies
- Performs site inspections as needed
- Performs related tasks as required
- Bachelor's degree in Planning, Architecture, Geography, Historic Preservation, Landscape Architecture, Public/Business Administration, Urban Studies, or a closely related field
- Three (3) years full-time verifiable experience in planning work including 1 or more of the following: planning, land use, zoning, urban design, historic preservation, site analysis, or research analysis
- Ability to create graphics and design presentations
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Ability to interpret and apply design and zoning regulations
- A Master's degree in Planning or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience
- Driver's license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through electronic correspondence, telephone and personal contact
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine
- No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, or kneeling
- Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling
- Must be able to drive an automobile and perform on-site inspections at locations which may not be accessible to the physically handicapped
