What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics - Water Safety Instructor (WSI) position at City of Middleton?
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Manager, the Water Safety Instructor is responsible for the organization and supervision of his/her daily classes and teaches aquatic and safety programs.
- Teach to the standards of the American Red Cross.
- Maintain accurate records of class attendance.
- Prepare lesson plans.
- Demonstrate skills.
- Complete necessary Red Cross forms and other paperwork as requested.
- Communicates with parent/guardian of student in a timely manner.
- Assist with supervision of the locker rooms.
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures, and know your role in emergency.
- Report all accidents and near drowning promptly to the aquatics supervision and fill out accident report.
- Provide constant supervision of all students at all times, insuring class is never left unattended.
- Supervise and direct the water safety instructor aides during class activities.
- Administer proper first aid.
- Know, enforce, and adhere to all rules of the pool.
- Know severe weather procedures.
- Be helpful, friendly, and cheerful to the public and fellow employees, especially your students.
- Direct all complaints to the manager on duty.
- Serve as a lifeguard (if certified) and/or pool attendant when needed.
- Attend staff meetings and in-services.
- Performs other related job duties as required.
- Knowledge of aquatic safety principles and practices.
- Understanding of applicable emergency medical response training.
- Must be mature enough to recognize and appreciate the vital nature of their responsibilities.
- 15 years of age or older.
- Completion of Water Safety Instructor Certificate.
- Completion of Red Cross Lifeguarding certificate (including First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification) desirable.
